ILLUSION 2021
International Law Discussion Vol 1
“The Continuous Rise of Asian Hate in the US”

The “Asian Hate” crime issues have been escalating since the rise of COVID-19 happening all around the world. Asia, herein, is being claimed as the source of the virus, resulting in the scapegoat from countries outside Asia towards Asian, particularly in the US. For all men shall be treated equally and just, thus, in this forum, we will be discussing issues related to The Stop Asian Hate and to further understand the gravity of racism and its crime. The forum featured Dr. Anang Setiyawan, S.H., M.H. (Lecturer of International Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Sebelas Maret) and Dr. Erna Dyah Kusumawati, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M. (Lecturer of International Law, Faculty of Law, Universitas Sebelas Maret). Lucky Surya Jaya (Vice President of International Law Development) stepped up to moderate the forum discussion. In the forum, Dr. Setiyawan explained about the history of racism which has become a protracted problem in the United States. Starting from the era of slavery, then the era of reconstruction (post-Civil War) which abolished slavery, the US is still experiencing systematic racism which then experienced significant progress in the Civil Rights period. Then, Dr. Kusumawati explained about the international legal framework that regulates the comprehensive elimination of racism and racial discrimination. Sadly, It took hundreds of years for the United States, the home of the free, to eradicate the problem of racism.
